Rivkin Leads Team Associated to Multiple ROAR 1:10 Carpet Off-Road National Championships
19th Jan 2024
2023 marked the second year that ROAR has hosted a carpet-specific
off-road national championship. This year the event traveled to world
famous Beachline Raceway in Cocoa Beach, FL. The facility continues to
host some of the largest carpet races in the world, and this year would
crown the North American champions for carpet off-road.
In qualifying, Team Associated's Spencer Rivkin, Doug Lariviere, and
Paul Wynn all posted top qualifying efforts, with Rivkin starting on
pole for Modified Stadium Truck, Lariviere in 13.5 Stadium Truck, and
Wynn in Masters Modified 2WD Buggy. With the grids all set, the team was
ready to race for the championships. Sunday kicked off with a quick
practice run to get a feel for the track and then it was straight in to
the main events.
With only a single 5-minute main event in the Masters 2WD Modified
Buggy class, TQ Paul Wynn was the first of the TQs to race for a win.
With a wire-to-wire victory, the longtime veteran used his Reedy Powered
B6.4 to earn the Masters 2WD Modified Buggy exhibition title.
In the 13.5 Stadium Truck class, Doug Lariviere won A1 and finished
third in A2, setting up a pressure-cookin' A3 to take the title. With
the calm of a seasoned veteran, Lariviere held off the competition to
earn his second ROAR National Championship, pairing his 2022 13.5 4WD
Dirt National Championship now with a 13.5 Carpet Stadium Truck
Championship.
The crown jewel of almost any 1:10 off-road event is 2WD Modified
Buggy. Building off his momentum of tying for the overall TQ with
Dakotah Phend, Spencer Rivkin and his B6.4 were primed to battle the
defending National Champion in the triple A Mains, but it only took two
mains to crown a champion. With laser focus, Rivkin hounded Phend the
opening laps of A1 and took over the lead just 3 laps in to the 19 lap
final. The results were similar in A2 where Rivkin took over the lead
on lap 2 and never looked back on his way to earning his 11th ROAR
National Championship and 3rd in 2wd Modified Buggy.
Thanks to Beachline Raceway and ROAR for hosting the event, and congratulations to all the champions.
